EV Lacertae's a star—with some serious flare

According to NASA, a really small star had an intense solar flare around the end of April 2008. NASA’s Swift satellite captured the flare, which was thousands of times more powerful than any other solar flare observed.

Aside from all the interesting science, the image is amazingly beautiful.
